The opening of a new reception desk on Monday 18 May completes the redevelopment of central student services space on campus.

The new Student Centre, which is located between University House and the Library on Alexandra Square, provides students with a central place to access a range of services.

Students can visit the ASK desk with any queries, and meet wellbeing, careers, programme administration and IT teams.

Meanwhile, a Welcome Hub in the same location provides space for applicants and visitors.

Wellbeing, welcome and meeting facilities

The new Student Centre includes flexible meeting desks, tablet terminals, an enclosed pod for sensitive meetings, and a new meeting room for up to 12 people that will soon be available for student societies and clubs to book.

The space will host the Wellbeing Drop-in, which takes place every weekday from 12-2pm, offering a chance to talk to a wellbeing advisor without making an appointment.

The area will also feature a Welcome Hub where guests and applicants can relax before touring campus. It replaces the Welcome Centre and will be staffed by Student Ambassador Leaders.

The opening follows the development of 16 new student appointment rooms and a dedicated waiting area, which have been in use since March.

They provide private space for students seeking support.

Michou Burckett St Laurent, Head of Student Support and Wellbeing Services, said: “This space has been very sensitively designed based on the input we’ve had from students.

“It needs to cater for students with many different needs and in all kinds of situations, ensuring privacy where that’s important.

“We as a team are really looking forward to welcoming lots of students through our new doors, and sharing this fantastic new space.”
