Title: Pure mathematics in medicine
Abstract: Traditionally, pure mathematics is described as the kind of maths we do without any regard to applications. However, this divide is rather arbitrary, and many methods from fields classified as “pure maths” are already enjoying direct applications in other sciences. In this talk I will present two different homology theories (persistent homology and magnitude homology), and how we use these in medical research.
