Altmetric Explorer is a web-based platform which tracks attention to research outputs beyond just academic citations. By detecting research outputs that are shared and mentioned in news sites, blogs, policy organisations’ publications, patents, clinical guidelines, social media platforms and other sources, Altmetric provides a new and unique way to record and evaluate the attention, reach and potential impact of your research amongst multiple societal audiences.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Gain an overview of Altmetrics and their role in capturing attention beyond traditional citations
  • Explore recent features, including sentiment analysis to understand how audiences engage with your research, and Attention Digests to provide clearer insight into the narrative surrounding it
  • Use Altmetric data to support funding applications, promotion cases, and research impact narratives
  • Understand how your research is being engaged with across policy, media, and wider public audiences
  • Explore where and how your work is being discussed, and by whom
  • Identify outputs that are attracting the most attention and consider the factors contributing to their visibility
  • Analyse audience demographics and geographic reach to better understand research engagement
