ReaderResearch Overview
I am a volcanologist who uses a combination of field studies, numerical modelling, social science, and laboratory experiments to investigate the processes that operate during the transport and eruption of magma. Current research topics include:
- The physical processes that control magma fragmentation
- Understanding the rheology of complex fluids
- The dispersal of volcanic ash in the atmosphere
- Co-creation of hazard products with Indigenous communities
- Flow properties of pyroclastic density currents
- The subsurface transport of mantle xenoliths
- Understanding past volcanism on other planetary bodies
- Hazard map production alongside government agencies
I also enjoy crossing traditional discipline boundaries and have collaborated with engineers, rheologists, material scientists, and ecologists.
