Research

A research grant awarded to a Lancaster University professor will establish a new Centre of Excellence to improve safeguarding outcomes and aspects of the Family Justice system. The project outputs will include a new model for global safeguarding protocols, a toolkit for improving access to justice and listening to family voices in the family justice system, and new tools to improve children’s online safety.

Cyber security

Security Lancaster is one of the largest interdisciplinary security research institutes in the UK with 120 staff from 15 academic departments. The institute brings together people from government, business, academia and the protection industries to create new perspectives on security, innovation and responsible entrepreneurship in a rapidly changing world.

Peace studies

We’re committed to teaching about fairer societies and ways to improve life for others. For example, our Peace Studies and International Relations degree, examines peace and conflict resolution, human rights and how sustainability and global changes will impact societies.

Campus life

Number one for Sustainability Governance

Lancaster University is ranked joint first in the world for Sustainability Governance in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2024. The Sustainability Governance category measures transparent financial reporting, student representation for sustainability at a senior level, and support and promotion of a holistic and ethical culture.

Sustainable investment

Following our declaration of the climate emergency, the University has taken further steps in its commitment to sustainability by transferring all its managed investment portfolios to two new funds designed to have a positive impact on people and the planet.

Outreach and engagement

Law in schools

Lancaster University Law School ran a fun outreach day for local primary schools. The children learnt about the law, engaged in legal skills activities and then, working in small teams, completed a fun game based around their learning.

Pop-up law clinic

A free pop-up legal advice centre run by Lancaster University Law School took place in the Central Library in Blackpool, UK. In addition to providing legal advice to clients attending the Pop-Up Clinic, the Law School is also running a research project which seeks to identify any specific challenges the community may face in accessing legal services and to better understand how to target unmet legal needs in communities.
