Research
An international team of researchers led by scientists at Lancaster University’s Centre of Excellence in Environmental Data Science and The UK Centre for Polar Observation and Modelling, have studied a previously undetected lake beneath the ice sheet in a remote region of northern Greenland, using state-of-the-art satellite data and numerical models. The research demonstrates the need to better understand how often the lakes drain and the consequences on the ice sheet.
Lancaster University researchers have been looking into the impact of humans on the Amazon rainforest. The research shows that human disturbances – from logging and fires of primary forests, or the clear felling and forest recovery after land abandonment (secondary forests) – brings about a comprehensive change in these hyper diverse tree communities.
