Reducing Exam Stress at Sport Lancaster

The summer term can be an extremely stressful time for students, with the pressures of exam and deadline season looming. Exercise can be a great way to relieve stress and switch off during stressful periods, with research from Les Mills suggesting that taking part in exercise such as their BODYBALANCE workouts before exams significantly reduces anxiety levels.

To help you take a break from studying, relieve exam stress and keep your mind focused, Sport Lancaster are offering a new short-term membership throughout the summer term. The membership gives you access to its facilities for 8 consecutive weeks, to reap the benefits of exercise during this stressful time, without a longer term commitment.

  • The limited time membership gives you access to:
  • Gym, swimming pool, sauna and steam room facilities
  • A variety of classes, including many designed to help the mind, body and soul

The membership costs £35 during off-peak times, and £65 during peak times for 8 consecutive weeks of access to the facilities. Memberships can be purchased from 6 April, and the last day to purchase will be 1 June 2026.

Pay as You Go

If the membership option isn’t for you, the sports centre has a number of different ways to take advantage of the mental benefits of exercise. Why not take a break from studying and blow off some steam in whichever way is best for you, using the pay as you go option? Prices at off peak times are as follows:

  • Gym - £6.15
  • Swimming - £3.95
  • Exercise Classes - £5.65
  • Joint Activity - £8.15
  • Racket Sport Court - £10.00

Free activities

If you’re unable to take part in any of the activities above, don’t worry - there are still plenty of free options available on campus. Sport Lancaster run a multitude of free classes and activities, conveniently located on campus, from Stretch and Mobility and FUNctional fitness, to a weekly Woodland Wellbeing Walk, designed to get your body moving and switch your brain off for just 30 minutes.

Why not try using the outdoor gym, located opposite the Sports Centre, to get your body moving and feel the benefits of fresh air without spending a penny?
