Professor Jianqiao Ye BEng, MSc, PhD

Chair in Mechanical Engineering

Profile

Biography

Professor Jianqiao Ye joined Lancaster University in 2012 as Professor and Chair of Mechanical Engineering. He is a member of the Lancaster Intelligent, Robotic and Autonomous Systems Centre (LIRA).

Professor Ye’s research spans a broad spectrum of topics in engineering science and technology, encompassing failure and damage mechanics of fibre-reinforced composites, advanced steel–concrete composite structures, geopolymers, lightweight and sustainable cementitious materials, cement and concrete carbonation, offshore oil and gas structures, and vibration energy harvesting.

He has extensive experience in experimental testing, numerical modelling, and optimization of complex materials and structural systems. His recent work integrates modern analytical instruments—such as X-ray computed tomography (X-CT), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS)—with data-driven methods including metamodelling, machine learning, and digital twin technologies.
