Awards and Winners

The School of Engineering celebrates the achievements of its students each and every year. Below are the recent winners from 2022-23:

Sam Lavender holds the Michael French Prize

Professor Michael French Prize

The French family has bequeathed a prize in memory of its founding Head of Department to recognise outstanding creativity and achievement in a student’s undergraduate studies.

Following a shortlist, nominated students are invited to write a short letter in support of their nomination, highlighting the creativity and originality in their project activities whilst at Lancaster.

Prize format: Certificate, plus £250.00.

Olivia Speed holding the Engineering Inspiration Prize

The Engineering Inspiration Prize

Awarded to an undergraduate student for outstanding contribution to activity that inspires and supports diversity in engineering, particularly in the domain of widening participation and the promotion of the engineering discipline to non-traditional cohorts and populations.

Prize format: Certificate, plus e-book voucher (£50)

Isobel Glover holds the Armourers and Braziers Prize

Armourers and Braziers Prize

The Armourers and Braziers Prize winner receives £250, a commemorative medal, certificate, and an invitation to join the Armourers Alumni Network.

The award was given to the Best Final year (BEng or MEng) Project in Materials Science.

The Stopford Chemical Engineering Prize

The Stopford Prize is awarded for the best Chemical Engineering project.

Prize format: Certificate, plus £100.00

Frankie Lynch-Brown receiving the Elekta prize

Elekta Prize for Best Female Engineering Student 

This prize is sponsored by Elekta, who employ engineers and scientists in the design and manufacture of radiotherapy systems for the world-wide healthcare sector.

The Elekta Prize is awarded for academic excellence demonstrated by a female student registered on an undergraduate engineering degree.

Prize format: Certificate, plus monetary award of £150.00 The winner is invited to Elekta, Crawley, West Sussex to collect the award.

Tom Millen Engineering Bursary

Awarded for outstanding performance during a student's first year of study.

Prize for outstanding academic achievement

Certificate plus two year’s free membership of the Institution

IMechE Prizes

All IMechE prizes are subject to the students nominated being members of the IMechE

Outstanding Project Prize

Project prize for the most outstanding project.

Prize format: Certificate, plus bronze medal

Frederic Barnes Waldron "Best Student" Prize

The winner of the prize will be selected on the recommendation of the appropriate Regional Committee.

Best Project Certificate is for the ‘Best Project’ on any year of a degree course.

One certificate is available for each accredited course.
