UK-China Business Briefing

Each Spring, we host businesses from across the North West to explore insights, opportunities and challenges of business cooperation between the UK and China.

This event brings together professionals from the UK and China, policy makers, economists, Trade Commissioners, and Lancaster University academics and students.

The briefing is a great networking opportunity. The day is led by a talk from an industry expert, followed by round-table and panel discussions on current issues around UK-China business, such as international relations and net-zero.

Intercultural Business Communication Workshops

Communication in a different culture is more than speaking a language. We run short workshops and longer courses to help businesses across the North West overcome the challenges of working in a different culture.

Workshops are run by Lancaster University academics including Dr Amily Guénier who teaches this subject as part of the Intercultural Communication Master's degree at Lancaster University.

Our training can be tailored to the needs of your business, whether you are preparing for one meeting or for a longer trip to China.

Bespoke sessions can include cross-cultural communication. Topics can cover working procedures, strategies to interact effectively in English, business-to-business relationships, management and teamworking in intercultural teams.

We also offer consultation services, pre-departure group briefings and can provide Chinese business communication representatives.

We can run a short lunchtime session, an intensive one-day session or a longer series of workshops. These can take place in your office or here at Lancaster University Confucius Institute, in groups or one-to-one.

We are also able to offer Chinese language for business at any level.

For those who would like to take their Chinese language learning further, we are an official Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) test centre. These formal language qualifications are recognised worldwide.

Asia Careers Fair

Our fair is held in Autumn each year in collaboration with Lancaster University Management School and Lancaster University Careers.

International and local businesses can recruit high-calibre graduates with Chinese language skills and an understanding of the global job market, for roles in the UK, Europe or Asia.

A wide range of companies take part, from multinational corporations to innovative startups, from sectors as varied as finance, education, technology, healthcare and catering.

Students from a wide range of subject areas have the chance to interact with recruiters, learn about potential career paths and gain insights into the skills and qualifications sought by employers.

The fair is also a platform for professionals to enhance their visibility in the North West business community and foster international industry connections with those already working in China.

Connections can be made with undergraduates seeking work placements and our alumni community who are already forging international careers.
